Egypt Sherrod, HGTV Host and Author, to Host Gala Auction Benefiting the Furniture Bank

Twenty Second Annual Event Features Unique Creations by Local Designers and Artists

ATLANTA, GA – January 14, 2016 – Egypt Sherrod, HGTV host and author, will serve as honorary host of the annual Chairish the Future gala and auction on Friday, February 26th, from 7 to 11pm at the Foundry at Puritan Mill. All proceeds will benefit The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta, whose mission is to recycle gently-used household furniture by giving it to individuals and families in the metro area who are moving out of homelessness and fleeing domestic violence as well as countless others facing hardships and struggling to make ends meet.

“It is my honor and privilege to serve as this year’s host for the Chairish the Future gala,” said Egypt Sherrod. “I was utterly moved by the commitment and dedicated service of the organization to families in need. Furniture Bank and I are of one mind – to help end homelessness and economically empower our community.”

Ms. Sherrod is the founder of her own non-profit, the Egypt Cares Family Foundation, whose goals pair well with those of the Furniture Bank. Her foundation’s mission is to enrich the family structure as a whole: At Egypt Cares Family Foundation, Family IS the foundation. A stronger family leads to a stronger village and community for all.

“We are thrilled to have Egypt Sherrod joining us this year as honorary host,” said Megan Anderson, executive director of the Furniture Bank. “Ultimately, the goal of the event is to raise funds that will enable us to do more in our community. Ms. Sherrod’s presence raises the profile of the event and helps us communicate the continued need for our services in the metro area and beyond.”

The gala auction will showcase local and nationally-renowned artists and designers. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on unique furniture pieces adopted by local artists from the Furniture Bank warehouse and transformed as well as original pieces designed and created by Atlanta design firms for the event.

Catering for Chairish will be provided by Dennis Dean, live entertainment by the MetroGnomes and a live painting exhibition by Bob Marinich. About The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta

The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta was founded in 1988 in response to the lack of furniture resources for previously homeless people who secure housing. The Furniture Bank is the only agency in metro Atlanta whose mission is to provide free furniture to people in need. Clients transitioning out of homelessness, fleeing domestic violence and facing a variety of hardships often spend the majority of their resources on a security deposit and first month’s rent, leaving little or no money to purchase furniture. The Furniture Bank ensures these clients and each of their children have a bed to sleep on. Furnishings provided include a table for sharing meals and a couch for relaxing. A furnished home increases a sense of ownership and confidence, benefits physical health, and helps our clients maintain stable housing, which is key to breaking the cycle of homelessness.
